A Miami native, Dr. Carrera-Justiz completed her undergraduate training at the University of Virginia and received her doctorate in veterinary medicine from the University of Florida in 2005. She then completed a rotating small animal internship at the University of Missouri and a neurology specialty internship at the Veterinary Specialty Hospital in San Diego.

Ernie is an LA native who was brought to Dr. Carrera as a patient, but she fell in love with his special needs and his happy personality. In her free time, she enjoys cooking, distance running and traveling.
