VCA Veterinary Referral Associates

Administration

  • Hospital Administrator

    Cheryl Smith

Cheryl Smith started with Veterinary Centers of America in October 1998 as the Hospital Manager for Delmarva in Berlin, Maryland. In subsequent years she became the group coordinator for Dr. John Corsale, Group Vice President for the Southeast Mid-Atlantic Regions.

In May 2005, Cheryl was offered and accepted the position of Hospital Administrator for VCA Veterinary Referral Associates and remains here today. Skeptical at the onset of managing a large specialty practice, she now can't imagine herself anywhere else. It is obvious, daily, that Cheryl treasures her role as part of our team and thrives on dealing with the many 'unique' individuals who comprise both our staff and clientele.

Ms. Smith lives in beautiful Carroll County with her husband, Jim, of 31 years. Their family of cats, Mystical, Cricket, Sage, Fudgie, Saturn and two beautiful new Persian kittens, Max and Molly, enrich their lives. One dog, a Pekignese named Oreo, thrives as a pampered minority. In her leisure time, Cheryl enjoys reading, going to the movies, running (she's in great shape!) and spending as many hours as time allows with her three adored sons - Rob, Jimmy and Sean - as well as her first granddaughter, Reese, who is cute as a button!

  • Office Manager

    Margaret Austin

Margaret Austin is VCA VRA's Office Manager. She began working with our team as a receptionist in August 1997. In May 2003 she was trained and began working as a veterinary technician with our Cardiology Department.  Stepping up to fill a vital vacancy, Margaret assumed her current position in August 2005.  She is responsible for the day-to-day operations of our administrative staff. While not at work she enjoys spending time with her husband, children and grandchildren.

  • Referral Coordinator

    Gwynaeth Broome

Gwynaeth Broome is our new Referral Coordinator/Liaison for the Ophthalmology and Oncology departments.  She is available Monday-Friday and will be glad to make your appointments and assist with anything pertinent to your pet's eyes, or treatment with our medical or radiation oncology services.  If she can't personally answer your questions, she will find someone who can.  Gwynaeth came to our hospital this year, but brought with her a great reserve of knowledge in the realm of customer/client service and is a determined problem solver.

In her spare time, Gwynaeth enjoys swimming, cooking and power-walking with Buster, her bull terrier.  She truly understands how a pet becomes an integral member of the family.

Gwynaeth can be reached from 9:00 to 5:00 at 301-337-2319 and looks forward to your calls.

  • Referral Coordinator

    Anjeli Gupta

Anjeli Gupta is the Referral Coordinator/Liaison for the Surgery and Integrative Medicine Departments.  She began working for VCA Veterinary Referral Associates in 2008, and is the first person of contact for the parents of surgical and integrative medicine patients with questions concerning their pets.

She began solely as an administrative assistant for the Surgery Department, but her position evolved to allow her to work more closely with patients. Indeed discharging patients back to their loving families has become a favorite task!  In the near future Anjeli hopes to begin a course of study to become a veterinary technician; with her daily hands-on experience, completion of this respectable goal should be just a couple of years away.

Anjeli currently lives in Gaithersburg with her partner, Steven (who is also an avid animal lover), Noah (Cairn terrier), and Pixie (cat) who has a larger than life attitude. She especially loves taking Noah for runs by the water, cooking, baking and oddly enough, cleaning - it's a full time job with two animals!). She hopes to add to the herd as time goes on but has to first pass each potential addition by Pixie for approval, a feat that is no small task.

If you wish to schedule a consultation with one of the doctors in the Surgery or Integrative Medicine Department, Anjeli is available directly via telephone at 301-337-2312 or via e-mail at anjeli.gupta@vcahospitals.com

    Mary Yonemura

Mary Yonemura is the Referral Coordinator/Liaison for the Internal Medicine - Critical Care Department began working for VCA Veterinary Referral Associates in May 2007. She also compassionately cares for families coping with bereavement issues.

If you wish to schedule a consultation with one of the doctors in this department, she is available directly via telephone at 301-337-2311 or via e-mail at mary.yonemura@vcahospitals.com
