  • Technician

    Kathleen Egan

    Kathleen has been with VCA since December of 2015. She is attending Penn-Foster for her associates degree in Veterinary Technology. She loves horse back riding and going to competitions as much as she can. Her special interests include surgery and small animal emergency medicine.

    Kathleen states, "I have always loved animals, small and large. I love the special connection with them."

    Dawn Gaston

    Dawn has been working in the veterinary field for 15 years. She started out cleaning cages, as many in the field do, and quickly moved up into an assistant role. The oncology department of the hospital she worked for decided they needed her full time and so started her technician career. She has worked for VCA since 2005 at 5 different hospitals including her first in Lafayette, Indiana. She has always enjoyed helping people and loves helping animals. Being diabetic herself, she has a special place in her heart for the diabetic pets.

    Lindsey Holmes is a Technician with VCA Southern Maryland Veterinary Referral and Emergency Center.

    Christina Warren
    Veterinary Tech School: Sanford-Brown College

    Christina has been with SMVRC since April 2014.  She went to Sanford-Brown College and received her degree in Veterinary Technology. She has three dogs, Jackie, Chico, and Bear.  She grew up in Massawodox, VA.  She like going out to eat, watching movies, shopping, spending time with her family and dogs, and taking naps!  One of her interests is animal behavior. 

    Christina states, " Ever since I could walk I have loved animals and wanted to work with them to help improve their lives."

    Cynthia Holmes

    Cynthia Holmes is a technician at VCA Southern Maryland Veterinary Referral and Emergency Center.  She was a military brat living all over the US and overseas.  Her home base was North Dakota.  She has four horses, two dogs, and ten cats.  She enjoys horse back riding, camping, hiking, and chilling at the farm by the bon fire.  Her special interest include emergency medicine and patient education.

    She states, "I have a love of animals and the medicine."

    Shae Bryan

    Shae is a vet tech assistant at VCA SMVRC. He is currently in school to become a licensed veterinary technician. He has an interest in working with exotics and enjoys writing music in his spare time.

    Marilyn is new to the team here at SMVRC and her enthusiasm is fantastic. She is eager to start her work and increase her knowledge base in the emergency room and be a part of the positive changes happening here!

Your emergency needs can be met right here at our hospital.
VCA Southern Maryland Veterinary Referral Center provides 24 hour emergency veterinary care, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Emergency veterinarians, veterinary technicians and/or veterinary assistants are on staff 24 hours a day.

We provide the highest standard in veterinary emergency and critical care services. We are trained and equipped to perform a variety of emergency surgeries and procedures. We provide the highest standards of pain management. Emergency internal medicine consultations, including full diagnostics, are available.
