James Lear, DVM, Associate Veterinarian
Dr. Lear
Biography
Dr. Lear was born and raised in Los Angeles, where he obtained his undergraduate degree in economics and business at UCLA. After a number of years in the business community he refocused his career goals, and attended veterinary school at the University of Prince Edward Island, Atlantic Veterinary College. After graduating in 2003 he moved to Cape Cod, where he practiced both general and emergency medicine for nine years before joining the VCA team.
Dr. Lear’s interest in acupuncture and adjunctive therapies began in veterinary school, where he founded a student chapter of the American Holistic Veterinary Medical Association. His goal has been to bridge the gap between Eastern and Western medicine, as he believes that there are indications and limitations for both therapies. He obtained his certification from the International Veterinary Acupuncture Society in 2007, and is presently pursuing certification in herbal therapies with the Chi Institute. He has a strong interest in canine rehabilitation, and will work closely with both Dr. Stephanie Kube and Jackie Kelleher, CVT, CPDT, CCRP, who manage the rehabilitation program at VCA South Shore. Dr. Lear’s future plans also include certification with the International Veterinary Academy of Pain Management.
