Orthodontics
Our animal hospital offers orthodontics as part of our extensive veterinary dentistry services. Orthodontics is the part of dentistry that deals with the study and treatment of abnormal bites (called malocclusions). Malocclusions often result from abnormal jaw length or abnormal tooth position. Common malocclusions include overbites, underbites, linguoversion of the lower canines (where the canine teeth point towards the tongue and can hit the upper hard palate), lance upper canines (the canines point straight forward ) and wry bite (malalignment down the midline). Treatment is necessary if the malocclusion causes damage to the hard palate (roof of the mouth), interferes with normal eating or otherwise interferes with the quality of your pet's life.
