Why I Do What I Do...
"Being raised in a very mechanically inclined family, I have always been interested in surgery. My mother, when she was younger, had an interest in veterinary medicine, but during a time when it was not en vogue for women to enter into the progression. Being deterred, she was always supportive of her children's interests, and instilled the conviction in her children, that we could accomplish whatever we set our minds on. For me it was orthopedic surgery, and my erector sets and Legos became external skeletal fixators. For a short time in college I entertained entering the human field rather than veterinary medicine. I am thankful every day, with every lick in the face and tail wag, that I made the right decision."
