Diagnostic Imaging

Diagnostic Imaging Digital Radiography: VCA LAVS uses digital radiology for its radiographic (X-ray) needs. Digital radiography allows for a filmless X-ray to be taken, and with processing after the picture is taken, a very high detail image is obtained. Using a state-of-the-art Eklin© Digital System we are able to visualize anatomical structures and fine detail heretofore unseen with traditional X-ray systems. Ultrasound: Ultrasonography is a painless, non-invasive way to assess a number of internal medical conditions. Generally done without sedation, ultrasonography allows the veterinarian to visualize the internal anatomy of many organs and in far greater detail than an X-ray alone. The ultrasound itself takes 20-30 minutes and is not performed during your pet’s appointment time. Rather, it is done during our mid-day and afternoon procedure times. Interpretation of the findings can take up to a few days. Fluoroscopy: Fluoroscopy is used to obtain moving images of a patient's internal organs through the use of x-rays and a fluorescent screen. If a standard x-ray is like a still-photo, a fluoroscope image is like an x-ray movie. This technology allows us to assess a pet's internal organs as they are moving in real time, so we can investigate such things as the movement of food through the gastrointestinal tract, or movement of blood through the cardiovascular system.
