Biography

Dr. Amy Kantor received her veterinary degree from the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine. Following graduation she completed a small animal general medicine and surgical internship at the University of Utrecht, the Netherlands, followed by a three-year residency in soft tissue and orthopedic small animal surgery at University of Utrecht. She has been in surgical practice since 1990 and performing surgery at Fifth Avenue Veterinary Specialists since summer 2006.

Dr. Kantor's surgical interests include trauma surgery, abdominal surgery, and soft-tissue reconstructive surgery, particularly for cats and dogs with neoplasia. She uses the soft-tissue laser scalpel for certain procedures in which local pain and swelling must be minimized as much as possible, such as in corrective airway surgery for brachycephalic breed dogs.

Dr. Kantor has appeared in New York Magazine's Best Vets listing as one of NY's top veterinary surgeons. Her counseling of clients whose dogs or cats face serious congenital orthopedic disease or whose older animals may require cancer surgery have made her a client favorite, well-known for her patience and kind demeanor in the exam room as well as her extensive knowledge of surgical disease.

Dr. Amy Kantor is always happy to 'pre-consult' with referring veterinarians or anxious owners. She is available at FAVS on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays and can be reached through our hospital's reception desk at 212-924-3311.
