Thumper-Rich and Michele from Cold Spring, NY
Pet Name: Thumper
Our 4lb., 10 year old Japanese Chin, Thumper, suddenly could no longer stand up by himself. Our Vet referred us to ASC. We were blessed with the compassionate care of Dr. Chiampa, Dr. Heuter, & Dr. Joseph... along with Staff Members (Dan, Chelsea, Joe, Regina, Jennifer), and Vet Techs (Sue)-to name a few. Their comfort and professional care for our "baby" has meant so much to our family.
We will definitely recommend this group of fine Veterinary Professionals.
THANK YOU to each and every one of you!
Thumper is doing well!
Dr. Joseph figured out what was wrong with Crypto-Ann Lockyer from Greenwich, CT
Pet Name: Crypto
Once again, I find myself telling another friend about Dr. Joseph and Emily and the thoughtful and kind care they gave to my sweet Tibetan Terrier, Crypto. I came to Dr. Joseph at the recommendation of our regular vet. She said an animal neurologist might be able to figure out the strange issues Crypto was having and that she would trust Dr. Joseph herself, if she was having a neurological problem. He did not disappoint! What I thought were seizures, Dr. Joseph thoughtfully and curiously determined was more of a balance issue and described them as episodes (not seizures).
After several months of trying different meds, things were not getting any easier for Crypto, so we headed back to Dr. Joseph and Emily. We looked at videos I had taken with my i-phone and again, studied Crypto. He then suggested that he take some blood and send it to a special lab to see what they might find.
Sadly, Crypto continued to get much worse and in June, I brought him back to see Dr. Joseph and Emily. I knew it would be his last visit and we all cried as we said goodbye to sweet Crypto, just 7 years old. It was just his time.......I still am touched by the thoughtful, kind, loving and compassion both Dr. Joseph and Emily showed to me and to Crypto.
We all miss him, especially his cousin, Trooper -our other Tibetan Terrier.
We actually had additional comfort when- a month after Crypto died, Dr Joseph called to tell me he had received the results from the lab in St. Louis. Crypto had a degenerative neurological disease that he had most likely had for years and WE ALL had done everything we could for him. Dr. Joseph was right - it was not seizures! Had it not been for his curiosity and tenacity to figure it out- we would have always wondered if we could have done more for our sweet dog.
I will always recommend the Animal Specialty Center in Yonkers to anyone that needs special care for their pet and will always talk about wonderful Dr. Joseph.
Thank you for letting me share this with you.

Cody-Phyllis from Briarcliff manor, NY
Pet Name: Cody
My sweet Cody was screaming in pain when we took him to Dr. Joseph at ASC. The MRI showed he needed immediate surgery. From his first moments at ASC to his release, Cody's care was exceptional. The front desk, aides, technicians, interns and residents all were professional, caring and sympathetic. I even received a text photo of Cody after surgery to soothe my rattled nerves. Dr. Joseph is lauded for his diagnostic and surgical skills. He must also be recognized for a compassionate bedside manner that is too often missing in veterinarians. I cannot say enough about how positive my experience was at ASC. How indebted I am to Dr. Joseph and his colleagues.. And most of all, how strongly I recommend the facility and its staff.

Hope for Our Baby Girl-Carol and Barry Fifield from Greensboro, NC
Pet Name: Juliette
Our oldest dog Juliette started having seizures in April 2011. Upon having her examined by our vet in Greensboro,NC, she was referred to a local specialty center. She was diagnosed as having a cystic meningioma, and it was estimated that her life would end in two months or less without some type of treatment. Due to her age which was 14 years and 2 months at the time, the recommended treatment was chemotherapy and radiation therapy. Upon further investigation, we discovered that she would have to undergo 16 to 20 radiation treatments within a period of four to five weeks, each time under anesthesia. We ruled out this type of conventional radiation treatment because in all likelihood she would have never survived that many times under anesthesia, and we were very concerned about the side effects of the radiation. If she had somehow survived all of this, the best case scenario was a survival time of eleven months. Our situation seemed hopeless. We desperately searched for an alternative and discovered radiosurgery. Then, we found Animal Specialty Center, the only veterinary hospital in the world with Cyberknife Radiosurgery. Dr. Joseph was frank, yet hopeful about Juliette's prognosis. We drove from NC to Yonkers, NY, and she received one treatment on June 15, 2011.There were no side effects whatsoever. On August 13, 2012 we returned to ASC for a follow up MRI which showed that the tumor was of similar to slightly reduced size, the best news possible! She also had a minor surgery while under anesthesia for the MRI.
Our experiences at ASC have been extremely positive. Dr. Joseph, Dr. Charney, Dr. Bonczynski, and the staff have treated Juliette and ourselves with the utmost compassion and care during both of her stays. It is obvious to us that ASC was founded with the intention of providing the best outcomes possible. We feel so fortunate to have found ASC. Without it, there would have been no hope for Juliette. Thank-you ASC!
Two thumbs up for the Derm Team-Eva from New York, NY
Pet Name: Cloudy
I was first referred to Dr. Budgin in February 2011, when my regular vet "gave up" the battle with the microbes growing in my dog's ear. Dr. Budgin came to Cloudy's rescue. She took a culture of the stuff, gave us medications, and told us what surgical options may be appropriate, once we learned what was growing in his ear. A rather unusual bacteria was growing in his ear, partly due to the fact that his ear canal was pretty well occluded by a cyst growing in it. Dr. Budgin did an ear flush, removed the cyst and lots of "gunk". She's worked with us regularly ever since! My dog Cloudy is so much happier with clean ears with which he can hear! He is itching less, and we are getting his allergic condition stabilized. The Derm team has great rapport with each other and they are so supportive to their patients and their patients' humans. They encourage questions and communication. I can't say enough thank you enough.

The Derm Team is fabulous-Eva from New York, NY
Pet Name: Cloudy
Cloudy is a wonderful mutt who was brought into the ASPCA by a Humane Law Enforcement team on 10/24/2006. His skin was in horrendous shape. The ASPCA vets worked on him and he became adoptable 3 months later. He still suffers from allergies and has very itchy skin. Our wonderful local vet threw his hands up in despair, when, after 5 months, he couldn't cure Cloudy's ear infection. He recommended Dr. Jeanne Budgin, and we came to see Dr. Budgin and her team. It's now 16 months since we first went to see Dr. Budgin, and Cloudy's ears are great! We continue the regimen she suggested, and he's doing very well. We love to come see the derm team. They CARE about Cloudy and me, and they are always so welcoming. They are amazing, and they work as a TEAM. I would recommend them highly for dermatology and allergy concerns.
