Biography

Dr. Jason Berg is the co-founder and staff neurologist and internist with Animal Specialty Center. Dr. Berg co-founded ASC to provide an environment where animals and people are treated with respect, kindness and the most advanced veterinary care. The goal is to keep people and pets together.

Prior to founding ASC, Dr. Berg, along with Dr. Richard Joseph, developed a referral hospital within County Animal Clinic. Concurrently, they established Animal MR, a mobile MRI service for specialty veterinary hospitals. They were the first veterinarians to provide MRI services for the New York metropolitan area. This service has expanded and now provides MRI services at large veterinary referral hospitals in four states.

In 1997 Dr. Berg completed his rotating internship in medicine and surgery at The Animal Medical Center in NYC. In 2000 he completed a dual residency in both neurology and internal medicine. He is board certified in both of these specialties.

Dr. Berg received his doctor of veterinary medicine degree from Texas A&M University in 1996. He completed a training program in veterinary acupuncture with the International Veterinary Acupuncture Society in 2001 and has been providing acupuncture to his clients ever since. Dr. Berg has published numerous articles pertaining to veterinary neurology and has presented at professional conferences around the country.

Dr. Berg has spearheaded collaboration with a large number of rescue organizations. He believes it to be a duty as a veterinarian to help the less fortunate. He has been the recipient of numerous accolades for his work by the rescue community, including guest of honor at Cat Assistance and Pet Adoption League's Wags & Whiskers Gala and the 'Hope Award' presented to him by The Husky House, among others.

Dr. Berg's lifelong dream is to meaningfully contribute to helping our furry family members. Hope -- that is what Dr. Berg provides. Neurology is often a frightening subject for owners and veterinarians alike. The good news is that once identified, many neurological conditions are highly treatable with the latest treatment techniques and love. Quickly arriving at a diagnosis, structuring the best therapy, and providing a beloved pet with the chance to heal are all part of the fundamental approach Dr. Berg follows in his treatment protocol.

Named best neurologist in New York Magazine's 'Best Vets' issue, Dr. Berg has performed thousands of neurosurgeries, including hundreds of brain surgeries. He is one of only two veterinary neurologists to have implanted the vagal nerve stimulator to help control epilepsy and the only one in private practice. Dr. Berg's board certifications and vast experience in both the neurology and internal medicine disciplines enables him to provide his patients with expertise covering a broad spectrum of acute and chronic illnesses.

Dr. Berg's professional affiliations include the New York State Veterinary Medical Associations, the Westchester Rockland Veterinary Medical Association, and the American Veterinary Medical Association, to name but a few. He has chaired three committees for the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ACVIM).
