VCA Animal Referral and Emergency Center of Arizona

  • Hospital Director

    Katherine Vasquez, CVT

Katherine has always loved veterinary medicine and after high school she began her career as a veterinary technician at Mesa Veterinary Hospital in 1997. She has experience in all departments of veterinary medicine but enjoys emergency medicine the most. After being with Mesa Veterinary Hospital, she helped open what is now known as VCA Animal Referral and Emergency Center of Arizona (ARECA) in 2005.

She strives to achieve great client service and excellent patient care while helping staff strive for the same goals.

  • Referral Coordinator

    Stephani Rhodes

Stephani has worked in veterinary medicine since 1982 and has been with Mesa Vet  and VCA ARECA since August of 1992.

As Referral Director Stephani is a liaison between the referring veterinarians and our own veterinarians.  She is also involved in many community events and continuing education events through our hospital.

  • Referral Coordinator

    Jim Rutkowski

Jim is an important part of our team at ARECA. His main role is to answer all incoming calls from our referring veterinarians as well as supervising our entire client service team. At times he takes his work home with him in the truest sense, which is quite evident as he has adopted 4 cats and 3 red-eared sliders that were orphaned at ARECA.

Jim moved here to attend college at ASU after escaping the cold in Buffalo, NY. Introduced to the veterinary field by a friend, he started working at a general practice in Tempe. He gained 8 years of experience there before joining ARECA in 2007.
