Biography

Dr. Smylie is a native Houstonian. After graduating from Bellaire High School, he attended Texas Tech University and was designated a distinguished student. Dr. Smylie received his DVM degree with honors, from the College of Veterinary Medicine at Texas A&M University in 1973. After graduation, Dr. Smylie served as a Captain in the United States Air Force Veterinary Corp. He was stationed at Barksdale AFB in Bossier City, Louisiana, providing veterinary medical care for military working dogs. After serving in the Air Force, he practiced for three years in Las Vegas, Nevada before returning to the Houston area where he owned a companion animal hospital in Missouri City for over 25 years. Currently, he enjoys the challenges and rewards of emergency medicine.  Dr. Smylie is a past director of the Harris County Veterinary Medical Association.  He is a member of the Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care Society and the American Veterinary Medical Association.  Feline Medicine is his special interest.  In his spare time he enjoys cycling, country western dancing and traveling. Dr. Smylie has two sons and a granddaughter living in the Houston area.
